Station 6 houses a two piece company; Squad 13 and Haz Mat 13. Squad 13 provides front line fire suppression, Basic Life Support, Vehicle Extrication and basic Haz Mat response equipment within the units' first response local. Haz Mat 13 supplements Squad 13 by carry the balance of the team's specialized equipment. Station 6 is one of the Technical Units operated by the Cherry Hill Fire Department. As a Hazardous Materials Unit, we provide incident air monitoring, identification and scene stabilization where toxic industrial chemicals, radiological or WMD agents could be present. If needed the 15 members assigned to Squad 13 can quickly initiate entry into these hazardous environments in order to rescue persons which might have been over come. They can also take offensive measures in these environments to limit the exposure of the harmful agent, thus protecting lives and property.
Our Squad Company, with the backing and support of our Fire Department, has been very successful at tracking down and winning several grants to provide thousands of dollars of specialized equipment used at a Haz Mat incident.
These grant dollars offset tax money and are a great savings to our taxpayers. Our Squad Company also plays a major role in both the Haz Mat and Foam regional task forces that would respond to incidents of consequence across New Jersey and further if needed. Membership in this Task Force has provided many opportunities for better training and sharing of equipment and resources. The members that staff this unit are very committed to its success . |
