Duties of Battalion Chief 1303
- Oversee the day to day activities of all the field units
- Provide incident command at major incidents
- Coordinate activities with the Office of the Fire Chief
- Training
- Fire Prevention
- Community Education
- Develop and coordinate special projects as directed by the Fire Chief

Staffing of the FCO
The field command office is staffed by 9 members. 3 assigned to each platoon, a Battalion Chief, a Lieutenant and a Firefighter. The Lieutenant and the Firefighter are a float position.
